Counseling Center Staff

Students, to make an appointment with your School Counselor, please fill out an appointment slip in the Counseling Center or email your counselor directly.  Every effort will be made to schedule an appointment with 48 hours. Counselor caseloads are broken down by last name alphabetically.  Parents, please call the Counseling Center or email your student's School Counselor directly to schedule an appointment.  


If a student is at immediate risk, please walk in to the Counseling Center or call us during normal school hours.  If it is after school hours, call the Anne Arundel County Warmline at 410-768-5522 or 911. 
Please do not email immediate safety concerns.  


Mrs. Brown has been a School Counselor at SPHS since 2013.  She earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Gender Studies from Loyola College in Maryland and Master's degree in Education: School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland.  Mrs. Brown is an Annapolis native and currently  resides there with her husband and daughter.  She enjoys boating, paddle boarding, yoga, coffee, and spending time with her family.

Lindsay Brown, M.Ed.


Ms. Shaughnessy has been a School Counselor since 1996.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Corporate Communications at the University of Baltimore.  After several years in the in the field of Advertising, she pursed her Master’s Degree in School Counseling at Loyola University in Baltimore.  A native Annapolitan, she enjoys being on the water, walking her greyhound rescue, and relaxing with family and friends.

Mrs. Ruhf has been a counselor at SPHS since 1999.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Elon College and a Master’s degree in Education:  School Counseling from Bowie State University.  Mrs. Ruhf is an Annapolitan and enjoys yoga, reading, movies, spending time with family and friends and football – especially Penn State.

Mrs. Jackson, a former elementary teacher, is the School & Community Liaison with her primary focus in the College Career Center.  Having graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, she is a die hard Carolina Basketball fan.  She currently lives in Severna Park with her husband and two sons (when they are home from college).  When not at work, she is usually enjoying something outside or on the water with friends and family.  Her favorite place to "be" is Mayo Lake, NC.  She describes her position at SPHS as "the perfect job"!

Nancy Jackson

Mrs. Besche has worked in AACPS since 2009. She graduated in 2005 from South River High School and resides in Turkey Point, Edgewater with her husband and dog. In addition to working at Severna Park High School, she is a certified personal trainer and owns a boat detailing and shrink wrap company with her husband in Herrington Harbour located in Tracy’s Landing. Her hobbies include boating, cooking, weight lifting, and spending time with her family and friends.


Jaclyn Besche


Mr. Connolly is a Social Studies teacher by trade, but has served as SPHS’ School Testing Coordinator for the last 10 years! He has a Bachelor’s degree in Education from University of Maryland and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel University. Mr. Connolly lives in Pasadena with his son and daughter. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, all kinds of sports and music, and the occasional Netflix binge or video game session.
